I just wanted to pass along a picture of my son with his catch of the day from Sunday's (06-03-07) "Fish For Free Day". My son, Jake Hornicak of Mt. Lebanon, is four years old and possesses a growing passion for fishing and the outdoors. Jake, along with his dad, Grandpap, Uncle Chris, and Great Uncle Dan, were fishing along the banks of the Ohio River at the boat launch near Glenfield, PA (Across the River from Neville Island). Within 10 minutes of Jake's first cast of the day, he gets a big tug on his line that almost pulled him off of his feet. After 10 seconds, we all realized that little Jake had a fight on his hands so I wrapped my arms around him and the rod for added support. With a little help, he got the fish to the bank and his uncle (Uncle Chris) helped him handle and release the fish.
The fish is a Freshwater Drum and measured roughly 19 1/2" and weighed approximately 4 to 5 lbs.
This was Jake's first catch, which he is very proud to tell his "fish story". Jake said that the fishing trip was "awesome" and that the fish was "cool".
Chris Hornicak of Harrison City (Uncle Chris) is shown in the picture helping Jake handle the fish.
Grandpap Andrew Hornicak of Baldwin and Great Uncle Dan Domzalski of Kennedy Township are proud to have been there for the day's fun and to witness the big catch.
Jake has received congratulations for his big catch from representatives of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
